Ghoha Hills Safari

One of our repeat guests Jennifer and Tony recently visited Botswana. They stayed at the Botswana Lodges of Ghoha Hills Savuti  in Chobe and Kanana Camp in the Okavango Delta. Kanana Camp was not their first choice of lodge but due to logistical issues they ended up there. The rains have not been heavy yet in Botswana so their water based activities were curtailed due to low water levels. Still, they had a lovely time on safari in Botswana.  Jennifer was also kind enough to leave us a review on SafariBooking.com.

Hi Michelle

We have now been back in Canmore for just over a week and were glad we did not return to terrible weather. It has been mild, which is just fine. Sorry it has taken time to reply.

We thoroughly enjoyed our safari time. Botswana is a lovely country and the people friendly.

Mack Air was great and efficient, pretty well on time for each flight. It was interesting flying around the thunderstorms and seeing lightning all around, but all fine.

Ghoha Hills was just lovely. Situated at the top of the hill with the wonderful vista and all those wonderful trees and vegetation around. What a view. It was raining so hard one day, but off we went with raincoat panchos on and stayed somewhat dry. All an adventure. BG our guide was delightful to spend the day with. The second day after the rain we saw lots more. The tent was lovely overlooking the plains, shower felt as is it was outside. The lodge being solar powered is very impressive. The pool area and gardens just lovely. Nanette was very helpful and enjoyed her gentle and caring nature, we felt like family. Sorry to leave. We were the only guests. Very spoiled.

Kanana was fine, but not a wow. The tents are fairly close together, no outdoor shower, but that is ok. They were clean and nicely appointed. The pool was not ready when we arrived, but it subsequently did open, it is not a place that lends itself to wanting to spend siesta time there. I did not see anyone use it during our stay. The delta water was extremely low, and many of the staff said the water does not generally arrive there until June, but this year was extra low, so that was somewhat of a disappointment. We enjoyed our mokoro ride, with one incident getting all our heart rates pumping when we came around a bend and there was another elephant and he was not too happy to see us! But all fine. The boat trip was very short due to water levels, nothing at all like we experienced when at Vumbura. Simon our guide was great, and we had a great bush walk with him.

When I looked at the delta map in more detail, Mapula is situated much further north than Kanana, they may have had more water but not necessarily.

We would return to Ghoha Hills and highly recommend it. We would not return to Kanana.

Will send some photos, we did get some good ones, and saw lots of elephants.

Thanks again for everything.

Jennifer
