Celeste’s guests, Judy and Patti, travelled to Botswana for a safari that both surprised and impressed them. There was wildlife galore, including a narrow miss of a cheetah sighting in the wilderness that is Botswana. These guests visited Leroo La Tau on the border of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park; Camp Moremi; Savute Safari Camp; and Xugana Island Lodge in the Okavango Delta. Here is Judy’s feedback:
I just got home last night and my sister, yesterday morning. The hardest part of the trip was traveling back. We should have stayed in Johannesburg one night as it was a three-day trip home.
We loved our trip. Each lodge was different and wonderful. I think 2 nights at Savute would have been better as we were at the end of our trip and wearing out. We do not know how we forgot to add Kruger National Park to our itinerary and wished we did!
We both fell in love with Botswana. It is an incredible country. We started at Leroo and because we were there for 3 days we got to do a one-day drive to Makgadkgadi Pans where we saw a lion up close and many other animals. We also went to Baines Boababs which were huge. At Leroo we watched hippos mating and had an elephant bellow at us while we were boating. Our room was beautiful and overlooked the water where animals would come.
Moremi Camp is where we had the most excitement. We stayed in tents there. We could only travel 14 km due to high water but in those miles saw many different animals including wild dogs and also got exciting rides through water and over log bridges. We watched the wild dogs surround 3 adult zebra and then suddenly 4 warthogs ran out from under the zebras’ legs and got away from the dogs.
Xugana was incredibly beautiful and we got to finally walk for 2 1/2 hours. One real surprise on the trip was how there was no walking and we had to be escorted in the morning and evening hours from our rooms to the main area. Another surprise was that we really didn’t need to buy safari clothing or walking shoes. We wished we brought some tank tops and some color or different clothing for the evenings.
At Savute Safari Lodge, our room overlooked a waterhole where we saw lots of animals. We saw all the animals and birds you would expect to see with the exception of a cheetah, which was seen the last morning of our trip, but we didn’t do the morning drive since we were leaving early that day.
There are no rhinos on this tour. Botswana is such a safe country. I will think more about what information I would like others to know and check my photos. I am leaving on another tip for 1 1/2 weeks and then will be organizing my photos. It was an incredible trip and you did an excellent job with us.
We got the trip we hoped for. Thank you.
