Baby elephant learns to walk – by Brett Thomson

Everyone say “Ooowww”! Very cute clip of a baby bull elephant learning to take his first tentative steps while being watched closely by his attentive Mother.

Some quick “Did you Knows” about elephants:

  • An elephants trunk is basically a modified nose, consisting entirely of muscle and no bones.
  • Breeding herds of elephant crossing a river or channel, will often hold onto the tail of the elephant in front of them with their trunks.
  • Elephants can reach higher than a giraffe. They are able to stand on their hind legs, and some bulls when standing like this, can reach over 20 feet and higher!

The footage was filmed at MalaMala Private Game Reserve, a huge private reserve located between the Sabi Sand and Kruger National Park.
