Liselle recently had some guests visit Simbavati River Lodge in the Kruger Park. Below is their feedback.
“Liselle,
Thank you very much for the thoughtful and supportive note. I am actually feeling better than I was several weeks ago, and I start chemotherapy again on Wednesday. I certainly made the right decision about going on the trip.
The trip was amazing, everything that we had hoped it would be. You have a spectacular country and we met marvelous people everywhere we went. I wouldn’t change a thing. (Well, maybe I would have packed a heavier coat.)
The Peermont Metcourt was fine. It was convenient and comfortable, with a surprising range of restaurants. You were right to advise us to keep our Jo’ Burg stay short. But we had a great time. Through friends and the internet, Ellen found a husband and wife (Rudy and Agnes) who led guided tours. We went to the Apartheid museum and Soweto, both of which were important for us to see.
Simbavati was outstanding. The managers took good care of us, and after one initial slip on the allergy scene, we were fine on the food situation. The lodge and accommodations were superb, and the food was great. (We ate like kings all over South Africa. The coffee was a different story, and I soon switched to tea. A small sacrifice given all the wonderful food and wine.) The tents were comfortable and kept us close to nature. Very close. One afternoon my daughter returned to the tent only to find that it was blocked by a herd of waterbuck. When she returned with help (my wife), the waterbuck had left but the tent was now flanked by a pair of elephants.
On the game drives we were very fortunate. One morning we saw lions, elephants, rhinos, and a leopard. The night before we came across a huge herd of buffalo. Our driver and tracker were excellent. One evening we watched a leopard stalk a herd of impala. She got her prey, only to lose it to a hyena.
Cape Town was as beautiful as we heard it would be. We also traveled down the coast and toured the wine country.
Thank you very much for all of your patience and help. Your assistance made the trip for us. My brother is now thinking about a trip to South Africa, and if he is serious I will send him your way. In our early correspondence you said that you knew the country and you were certainly correct. I am grateful and will be posting a note about Sun Safaris on trip advisor.
Sincerely,
Howard
