Hi Celeste – thank you.
It was a very good break, albeit a little too short! The weather was absolutely fine for safaris – we only had one afternoon of rain, and still saw a lot of game (lions, leopard during the rain too!).
We saw all the Big 5, lots of antelopes, giraffes, crocs. We enjoyed ourselves at Karen Blixen Tented Camp very much, tent was fantastic, bed was very comfy and the biggest plus was the hot water bottles under our duvets at night – ALSO very good to see that there was a lot of employment of local community residents at camp. Food was decent and portions were just right. People were very friendly.
Safarilink however did not follow schedule, and we waited for an hour after landing (the camp kindly gave us complementary massages and a bottle of wine, to make up for the hour’s wait). The camp was told that they would have 4 guests, but the second plane did not come in for an hour. Upon departure, the plane which we were supposed to get on was delayed for an hour as well. The drivers (two of them, one from Karen Blixen, another from a separate camp waiting to pick up) did not know where the planes were, however they waited with us. The lack of radio communication was a bit shocking.
The pick up to and from Nairobi International and Wilson Airports were easy. Gamewatchers reps are well trained and very conversant. Southern Sun Mayfair is very nice too.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Valeri
