One of the many reasons premier safari lodges are a cut above the rest is because of their attention to detail, and superior architecture and decor. Whether it’s the soft furnishings, haute cuisine, the gentle fold of a napkin, or bespoke artwork; there’s always a sense of grandeur at luxury safari lodges in Africa. Ardmore is a luxury lifestyle brand that speaks to lovers of luxury. Inspired by wildlife and Africa, and its sense of community, Ardmore creates statement pieces loved by international auction houses. Desired collections of wildlife-themed ceramics made by hand-selected local artists take you on a unique journey into the safari kingdom.
“Ardmore is a luxury lifestyle brand specialising in ceramics and decor. Their quirky crockery and finely threaded scatter cushions are synonymous with stylish safari decor. Incorporating bold colours with predator emblems on bespoke pieces, Ardmore is designed to inspire. From sumptuous Sabie-themed cushions to 3D pangolin vases, Ardmore marries sophistication with safari, and takes you on a whimsical flight of fancy.”
Ardmore Ceramics and Interiors
At its core, Ardmore is all about Africa and the spirit of community. The luxury brand successfully merges high-end sophistication with the laid-back spirit of Africa. Since its inception, about 30 years ago, Ardmore has become an iconic household name. Owner Fée Halsted currently employs over 70 local artists who each bring something unique to the table. Ardmore’s vision is to become a world-leading luxury African brand (we think they’re there already) and places high value on nurturing relationships with artists, clients, and communities.
What started off as a small business providing bespoke ceramics, has now transitioned into a company that creates both collectible artworks and a range of sought-after textiles. Named after the farm where she grew up, Ardmore stays true to its humble roots by employing exceptionally talented artists from the KwaZulu Natal region. Each gifted artist is given a studio with materials, and a guaranteed market for their work. In fact, Ardmore ceramics’ claims-to-fame is that they’re now recognised as collectibles by Christie’s, Bonham’s, and Sotheby’s! But that’s not all. Collaborating with fashion house Hermes, Ardmore set out to design an ornate collection of high-quality luxury scarves and fabrics, now desired by those with an eye for fashion and interiors.
Ardmore collections in luxury safari lodges
The below luxury safari lodges possess a coveted collection of Ardmore pieces, and an array of superlative interiors to match.
Ardmore bedside lamps at Xigera Safari Lodge
Xigera Safari Lodge is a premier lodge resting on the banks of the Okavango Delta’s waterways. There are just 12 well-appointed suites located in the midst of Botswana’s wildest regions, and a masterpiece of a sleepout treehouse on the waterways of the Okavango Delta.
Xigera celebrates art and creativity, so it comes as no surprise to find a few Armore pieces scattered throughout. Going on safari at Xigera is akin to sleeping in an art gallery in the remote wilderness. The lodge’s attention to detail and the finer things in life is admirable. Adorned with hand-painted imagery of Moremi’s wildlife, each of the ceramic bedside lamps was made specifically for Xigera.
Ardmore wingback chairs at Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge
The award-winning Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge is located in one of the Kruger’s most revered Big 5 reserves. The Sabi Sand is one of the best places to spot leopard and big game. Drawing in a discerning and stylish crowd, Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge interiors certainly cater to their clientele. The much-talked-about bar area is an eclectic mix of contemporary design, bold artworks, and plush furnishings. Thrown into the decor are hints of Africa, complete with a few quintessential leather bar stools.
The Ardmore wing back chairs are a real statement piece in the bar area and tie in perfectly with the unique decor. In true Ardmore style, the high-quality thread of the fabric is plush and inviting. And we all know the comfort levels of a classic wingback.
Londolozi’s Ardmore wallpapers and soft furnishings
Londolozi Private Game Reserve is one of the oldest and most established premier private reserves in South Africa. Londolozi prides itself on being a community and conservation-focused reserve, but holds a high standard when it comes to cuisine, decor, and service. Going on safari at Londolozi is not only a journey into the wild, but also a journey into the finer things in life. The absolute commitment to luxury is evident in the small things such as napkins on game drive, premium drinks, and even bathroom amenities. It’s all about the detail at Londolozi!
Ardmore ceramics and decor are scattered throughout Londolozi, but it’s the subtle wallpaper in the granite suites that takes centre stage at the Ardmore show. A muted grey print with elephants specially designed for Londolozi adorns the walls of the suites. Other elements of Ardmore include napkins, aprons, tablecloths, and pouring jugs.
Ardmore covered sofas and chairs in The Farmstead at Royal Malewane
The Farmstead at Royal Malewane boasts a collection of Ardmore-covered sofas and designer chairs. The Farmstead comprises the main lodge, farm suites, and farmhouse. The fun and intricately designed fabrics covering once-off pieces add a sense of bold African-inspired art to this private safari villa. Overlooking a waterhole and endless savannah of the Greater Kruger, The Farmstead certainly has spectacular views. Such stark and colourful elements complement the natural hues of the summer bushveld, and mirror the plumage of bright birds. We do love biomimicry in decor!
