Retreat into the primitive world of the African bushveld where the laws of nature govern your surroundings and you absorb the untamed structure of the trees, wake to the cacophony of morning birdsong, see the stars reveal themselves without the interruption of city lights. The experience of a safari is a relaxing, rejuvenating experience that resets your clock and gives you the opportunity to realign with the natural rhythm of things. Many of our favourite safari lodges and camps have sublime day spas and massage studios designed to add to your relaxation process, helping you to de-stress and revive. If this is something you look for in a bushveld retreat, stay tuned to discover some of our top safari spas.
This little gem is in South Africa’s Sabi Sand Game Reserve at Simbambili. A thatched chalet, elevated on stilts, between jackalberry trees, and surrounded by the wilderness. The Africology spa at Simbambili offers an aromatherapy-fuelled experience not to be missed.
Sculpted into the natural curve of the earth, emulating the wild surroundings and engulfing guests in the warmth of an African landscape, Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge and its Amani Spa is exactly where we find wellness in the wilderness. There is something ultra rejuvenating about nature, something about getting in touch with your roots and rebooting off the energy of the Earth. It’s no wonder that the ambience of this supreme Sabi Sand property is entirely aligned with our current mission to seek some of the safari’s best spas. Check us in!
When you’ve found the “massage pavilion” you know you’ve found a little slice of safari heaven! One of our luxurious favourites, Finch Hatton’s Tented Camp, has gone all out when it comes to their Chyulu Spa and Wellness Centre. An elevated deck for aromatherapy with a view or a yoga practice you’ll never forget a peaceful treatment room, and some sublime Africology products applied by the hands of expertly trained professionals – it ticks all the boxes for what we would like out of a safari spa.
The best spa experience in the Delta? Some may say Jao Camp is the place to be to receive some of the best massage therapies in the area, surrounded by Okavango wetlands and lavished with exclusive luxury. A private island, a seasonally accessible star bed experience, and a massage spa that coaxes every last inch of tension from your muscles. Jao’s nine deluxe safari tents are probably relaxing enough given their level of meticulously crafted comfort, but who are we to pass up on a hot stone treatment or an aromatherapy foot rub!
The only problem with this massage room made in heaven is that you’ll miss the view when you fall asleep. Massage lovers and spa seekers will know just how relaxing aromatherapy or hot stone massage is, and how hard it is to keep those eyes open as you drift through the blissful state of relaxation that massage therapy evokes! At Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge in northern Serengeti, this is the spa set up, and we’re loving it! Tranquillity surrounds the superb, open-style treatment room and lets all the natural goodness come in. The grassy hills and open woodlands are abundant with birds and wildlife and you’d certainly miss something if you drifted off to sleep… but we would forgive you if you did!
This place just screams RELAX. All that greenery, all those dappled shadows, those natural textures, light, and space. Lake Manyara Tree Lodge has some sublime massage treatments and therapies designed to infiltrate your mind with a sense of stillness and well-being. This massage “room” is at eye level with the trees, and so are the 10 deluxe suites. Elevated to rise up next to the lush leafy branches of gorgeous African mahogany trees and be embraced by the blissful presence of nature – there is something about this place that just insists upon revitalization and relaxation. We’re so ready for this.
