The Savuti Channel never looked so good! The newly unveiled redesign of Savute Elephant Lodge is a treat and it comes with not only some luxurious soft refurbishments, but some excellent steps towards more ecological sustainability and a fantastic new hide positioned overlooking a waterhole. This iconic location in Chobe National Park has some of the most renowned game viewing in the country, and indeed Southern Africa and Savute Elephant Lodge have always had front row seats, but now, it is supremely attractive and oozes ‘explorer luxury’. Take a look at these conceptualising photos…
The location of this lodge is second to none and the newly designed open viewing deck offers the perfect place for guests to sit back and make the most of it. The large, wooden platform has multiple levels; one to accommodate a pool deck with shaded sun loungers and recliners, which overlook the wilderness with the refreshing swimming pool providing the ideal place to cool off during those scorching Botswana summers. The second level, slightly higher, is an extension of the dining area with s0me outdoor dining tables, which overlook the pool and of course the view beyond it. Alongside the swimming pool deck is a lower fire pit area, which has a dancing campfire in the evenings and is surrounded by seating offering a popular place to relax with a drink. The indoor lounge is located above the fire pit and is equipped with comfortable sofas and coffee tables to accommodate a comfortable afternoon of lazy holidaying.
The innovative addition of a game viewing hide is something worth getting excited about. This subtly placed post-box view of the wildlife visiting the watering hole is built to see elephants at eye level, and closer than you could ever be without being detected. The opportunities to see hyena, lion, leopard, wildebeest, giraffe, impala, warthog, zebra, or buffalo right up close and unnoticed is a novelty of this camp and a first in the area.
There are 12 luxury tents at Savute Elephant Lodge, which are positioned alongside the main area, between the trees that line the Savuti Channel. Each unit is spacious and built from canvas, timber, and thatch. All concrete has been done away with in favour of more eco-friendly bamboo structures and woodwork that allows the vegetation to grow around it and retains the integrity of the area. Inside these large tents are elegantly furnished bedrooms, which have whitewashed wooden floors, light canvas, and natural textiles which is evident in the furniture and decor dressing the room. The level of luxury is unquestionable, yet it speaks subtly through items throughout the bedroom and en suite bathroom. Mirrors with brass frames, woven lampshades, polished wood, unexpected colour, and timeless four-poster beds complete the look.
