A Tour of Kenya’s Elite Wildlife Areas and Top Safari Lodges

We take a tour of of Kenya’s Elite Wildlife Areas and Top Safari Lodges, these have something a little special beyond the wildlife found here.

Borana Lodge

Keeping Kenya in the limelight this week, we are showcasing some of our favourite moments captured in various parts of this renowned, wild utopia. This sunset scene encapsulates the essence of an African holiday: a celebration of colour, of freedom, of endless visions and wild landscapes home to the most powerful and graceful creatures on Earth. This is Elephant Bedroom Camp in Kenya’s Samburu National Reserve and we want to be there. “Set on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Reserve surrounded by doum palms and other beautiful indigenous trees and shrubs sits this small and exclusive camp of 12 luxury tents.”

Where Africa’s largest elephants roam, in the shade of the continent’s tallest peak: Kilimanjaro. This is Amboseli National Park, and this breathtaking image of nature’s giants is captured at Elewana Tortilis Camp, which is famed for its staggering views of this soaring, snowy peak, and the great tuskers that dominate the plains at her feet. This arguably the most inspiring and mesmerising place to visit in Kenya… And we’re not arguing!

What has to be one of the best views in Kenya: Elsa’s Kopje in Meru National Park – straight from the supremely positioned bedroom suites and gazing out over the historically acclaimed plains. Elsa was the lioness who inspired the film Born Free, and this classically elegant safari retreat is named after her. A place with character and meaning, made even more sublime by a perfectly positioned swimming pool, indoor and outdoor bath tubs, and rooms like these that rise far above the horizon.

Be swept away to a place you could easily conjure up in your wildest dreams: Finch Hattons luxury camp in Tsavo West National Park. This Kenyan utopia has an entirely surreal nature to it. Full of character that was once, long ago, so prominent, and has been brought to life in a soaring matter of detail. Natural pools fed by the springs of Mount Kilimanjaro and Chyulu Hills well in front the spacious and comfortable boma lounge, offering reflections of the dusky sky and the tangled trees as your evening of African bliss begins with a cosy sundowner among friends.

That Samburu skyline! The sheer magnificence of Saruni Samburu‘s location is enough to take your breath away. It is pure indulgence; from the tie-dyed sky to the rolling horizon, the untamed plains, and the elevated pedestal of your private villa. This exclusive Kenyan conservancy, called Kalama, is solely occupied by Saruni Samburu, and its 200 000 acre expanse hugs the borders of the Samburu National Reserve. Mount Kenya towers over you from a distance, while the African kingdom plays out at your feet. The opulence of the tented villas cater for your every desire, and each element of life at Saruni is designed to satisfy your senses, from breathtaking wildlife encounters, to fine-tuned guest service, delectable dining, and the invitation to experience ancient Samburu culture.

A beautiful image captured at Losokwan Camp in the Lemek Conservancy just north of the infamous Masai Mara National Reserve. In an ideal and abundant location, the Mara River is a 10-15 minute drive from camp where several hundred hippo and a few large crocodiles reside. Losokwan prepares epic bush breakfasts in the pleasant shade of the trees overlooking the hippo pools on the river, and after a delicious indulgence, the game drive continues! East Africa magic.
