Peggy and Mitzi are two of our guests who recently travelled all the way from the United States to the Greater Kruger Park on a safari tailored by one of our most experienced agents, Natasha. Having worked with Peggy since 2015, Natasha and Michelle knew just what Peggy would enjoy, and arranged a combination of 5-Star luxury at Makanyi Private Game Lodge, and comforting and personalised Kambaku River Sands, both in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. We were very happy to receive Peggy’s feedback, and hope to work with them again in the future! Peggy also reviewed her experience with us on Safari Bookings, which we were very pleased to receive. Thank you Peggy and Mitzi!
I had a great time on our two safaris (and I suspect that Mitzi will also reiterate this:)). Of course I LOVED Kambuku–we had Phanuel as our game ranger and I must say he is the best. We LOVED LOVED LOVED Phanney and Rifos–both were just wonderful:) When I return to this lodge, I will request them again (and again)! Phanney has a wonderful way about him–very cordial, personable, knowledgeable, and wonderfully comic. We were treated so well by the staff, and the game viewing was extraordinary. My room was as I expected, comfortable with some wi-fi connections. Bryce and Nicola were again amazing hosts/owners who made this safari even that much more amazing. We had a bush boma complete with dancing, singing, and great food. Who doesn’t like the thrill of being in the wild, in the dark, with a group of adventurous people who love safaris?! I reviewed Kambuku and have recommended it to others who were wondering about a good safari.
Makanyi was indeed a five-star lodge–the amenities and service were spectacular! The dam that is outside the lodge is huge and it’s nice to see resident hippos, antelope of various species, and the occasional walk of the elephants outside the electric fence. The rooms were so spacious and amazingly appointed. What I really liked about this lodge was that everything was inclusive from the moment we stepped out of the transfer van to stepping back into the van. The food was none that I had experienced in previous safaris–so elegantly plated and, really–scallops and chocolate molten lava cake on safari? Who wouldn’t return for that?! The chef(s) were extraordinary. I really liked the managers of the lodge as well–both extremely jovial, full of stories, and really fun to be around.
In short, while I would return to Makanyi for the amazing food and accommodation, I’m not sure that this lodge was quite for me–lots of honeymoon couples or couples in general who are there for the ambiance, and it seems like a place for this type of client, not really for people like me who just want to go on safari.
Across the lodges that I have been to, I think that Kambaku is my favorite; I hope to get back there a few more times.
In all, great great time! I may be back in October–unfortunately, I think this is high season. So, I’ll be in touch about possibilities. Would love to go back to Kambaku for about five-seven nights.
Hope all is well with you, and again, thanks so much for all you do to make these safaris wonderful!!
Best,
Peggy
