Best trip of our lives – A Southern Africa safari
Brad and Manuel recently returned from their Souther Africa Safari adventure! They started their journey in Cape Town where they stayed at the Three Boutique Hotel. From here they explored the Cape, visiting the Cape Winelands as well. They they headed up the Whale Coast to the quaint village of Hermanus and stayed at Hermanus Beach Villa. After their Cape visit Brad and Manuel flew to Maun in Botswana where they were whisked in a light aircraft to start their Botswana Safari! First stop was Sango Safari Camp in the Khwai area, then onto the Savuti region of Chobe where they stayed at Savute Safari Lodge before moving to Chobe Elephant Camp. It sounds like their Southern Africa Safari really was a trip of a lifetime!
Here is their feedback:
Hi Michelle,
Our safari was great! With the exception of our rental car in Cape Town (which was two hours late), everything went really smoothly.
The lodges in Botswana were all very good and we definitely saw more animals than we were expecting. Sango was our favorite lodge because it felt more rustic and more true to the environment; we loved listening to the hippos and elephants at night! We took a ton of photos, but haven’t even finished sorting through them yet. I’m glad we visited when the landscape was green and the creeks still had water.
We visited Spier in Stellenbosch and also Boschendal in Franschhoek, both of which were beautiful wineries. Five days definitely wasn’t enough in Cape Town — especially without a car for most of the time. We found Hermanus to be a bit of a bore, but the shark cage diving was amusing, though I did get sea sick!
Overall, it was probably the best trip of our lives, with astonishing scenery and amazing experiences. It was a trip we will certainly remember for years to come.
A couple of things that would benefit future travelers:
- Rent a car in Cape Town for the entire duration of your stay; we felt trapped without one. Also, Cape Town has many hills, which may prove challenging to those unaccustomed to a manual transmission.
- Stock up on sunscreen before heading to Botswana as you cannot buy anything in the bush.
- Grab cash for tipping safari staff when you’re at the airport as there are no ATMs in the bush.
Thanks again for all the help. We’ll definitely return to Africa some day!
Brad
