Opening 01 June: andBeyond Benguerra Island
The new andBeyond Benguerra Island lodge is about to open it’s doors to their first guests who are in for a treat! Set on the 2nd largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, andBeyond Benguerra Island is a magical destination set in a paradise. The azure waters around Bazaruto and Benguerra are protected and are full of unspoilt coral reefs teeming with marine life and providing excellent fishing opportunities.
The andBeyond Benguerra Island lodge takes inspiration from Bazaruto’s Portuguese and African heritage, with all the rooms built to maximise the magnificent surroundings. There are 10 casitas (small house) and 2 cabanas are light and airy with a tropical island chic interior. Each is nestled under the shady forest that borders the pristine white sand beach. Private decks have gazebos and plunge pools.
Activities are varied at andBeyond Benguerra Island. Visitors can spend time on their private deck just relaxing, exploring the islands beaches and freshwater lakes, diving and snorkelling at the pristine reefs that surround the island, heading out for some deep sea fishing and watching the sun go down on a catamaran cruise. Guests can also enjoy a traditional dhow cruise, local village tours, horse riding and more!
Best of all, there are direct flights on a Sunday and Thursday from Kruger to Vilanculos, the local airport that services Benguerra in Mozambique and daily flights back to Johannesburg. This means that a wonderful Bush and Beach experience could be yours! You can enjoy a safari in any of Kruger’s private game reserves before heading to the tropical paradise.
andBeyond has some wonderful properties in the Sabi Sand and Timbavati Game Reserves which can combine perfectly with Benguerra Island. In the Sabi Sand there are 3 camps, Kirkmans Kamp, a traditional colonial safari lodge, Leadwood Lodge a beautiful and intimate camp and Exeter River Lodge with dramatic views of the Sand River. In Timbavati there is the Ngala Tented camp, a luxurious tented camp on the banks of the Timbavati River, and Ngala Safari Lodge with it’s colonial and elegant atmosphere.
