Wildlife photos of the Savuti, Chobe.
The Savuti Marsh is in the south west of the Chobe National Park, Botswana. This area is well known for its predator sightings with lions, leopards and hyenas all competing in the game rich area. Lions have been known to hunt elephants in the Savuti! It was here that the amazing wildlife documentaries made by legendary Dereck and Beverly Joubert were made.
The Savuti Channel is fed by the Linyanti river. This in turn empties out into the Savuti Marsh. The Savuti Channel has flowed and dried up a few times over the last few centuries. Notably in the early 1980’s, the channel stopped flowing, the marsh dried up and the life blood of the area disappeared. Pumps kept the waterholes flowing and these areas became major hotspots for game viewing. Then suddenly in the 2000’s the channel began flowing again, bringing with it life.
Here are some images all taken by Kevin Maclauglin, who recently spent some time at the tented camp of Camp Savuti.
