Fantastic Botswana Safari
Gareth, Catherine and Sarah headed on a Botswana Safari and stayed in the Okavango Delta and the Chobe National Park. Anne- Marie put together their trip and they wrote to tell us of their adventures!
Anne-Marie,
On behalf of Catherine, Sarah and myself we would like to thank you for all your help that you gave us with arranging our stays at Chobe Elephant Camp and Oddballs Camp. We had an absolutely fantastic Botswana safari and we wanted for nothing!
We would highly recommend Chobe Elephant Camp, everybody there was really friendly and they could not do enough for us. The accommodation was really nice and we had been assigned the “family” lodge so were right next to each with an adjoining living room (although we never had the time to use it as we were kept busy). The food and service was top notch, there was never going to be a chance for us to go hungry and the staff were always helpful and we could not want for anything. Out guides Mike and Carlton were really interesting and helped us look and find for all the animals that they could and gave us information on everything we saw as well as stopping and pointing other interesting sights. We were treated to seeing over 100 Elephants on our first full day out on a drive and then were taken to see the Lions resting in the shade. As well as seeing these two of the big five we also got to tick off Buffalo and Crocodile from our list as well as numerous Antelope both common and some not so common.
Moving to Oddballs Camp we had a smooth transit from Chobe, one stop on the way to drop off a couple of other passengers we had then our pilot pointed out wildlife on our final leg to Oddballs. Arriving at Oddballs we were greeted by our guides Kenny and Leo as well as the Camp manageress Ponny. We were shown to our tents and given a quick tour before being taken straight out for our first Makoro trip and walk. Oddballs is a completely different camp and experience than Chobe Elephant Camp but one that I would recommend to anybody looking for a “close to nature” experience. On our arrival we had a Bull Elephant in Camp which spent the afternoon and most of the evening there. On our second night there was a Leopard in camp and even though we did not see it, knowing that you were so close was very exciting.
As well as this, laying in a tent at night and hearing all the noises of the bush was really nice, I never thought I would be woken up to the sound of Lion’s roaring but it will be something I never forget. With the twice daily trips on the Makoro to were we would walk from we were able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the waterways which is something that you just cannot do on a game drive. Having the time to walk around and get relatively close to the animals on foot was also something that was a great experience. Again our guides Kenny and Leo were able to providing information on things that we saw but with the advantage of being on foot we were able to get closer and see smaller points of interest which you would never see on a game drive.
Thanks again for all your help, I would say it was a once in a lifetime trip but I think that you have made three people very interesting in Safari trips and I would like to think that we will be using Sun Safrai’s again. We will and have been recommending yourselves already so I hope that you get a few more people showing interest!
Regards,
Gareth, Sarah and Catherine
