Anne-Marie’s booked her clients in the Kruger’s Umkumbe Safari Lodge in the Sabi Sand reserve and the Zambezi Sun in Victoria Falls where they enjoyed a safari and some spectacular sightseeing.
“Anne Marie, Hello, back in cold Boston. Had a wonderful trip to South Africa. The conference was very good, the conference center in Capetown is very nice and was the perfect size for our conference. Capetown was beautiful. I stayed on the waterfront the first few days and then at the Tarragona Lodge in Hout Bay (lovely 10 room bed and breakfast, lovely, helpful owners, beautiful location, highly recommend it.) Loved the Red Bus to get around Capetown.
We rented a car and found it easy to get around. Loved wine country and Cape of Good Hope. Safari was great fun, Umkembe worked out well for us. Liked the small size, Oliver and Jason were great hosts and game trackers. The important things worked well, comfortable beds, hot water, good food, nice location. We were disappointed in the number of animals, esp compared to our experience in Tanzania 9 years ago. No lions or leopards this time and only saw elephants and giraffes once. We did see rhinos which were new for us. I realize it is the luck of the draw.
Though not as many animals, we were able to get quite close to them and stay as long as we liked watching them which was great. And there was always the thrill of the hunt trying to track them and realizing they could be beyond the next curve. All in all, a good experience. Victoria Falls was interesting and beautiful, staying next to the Falls was nice so we got to see them several times in different light. Did a water safari at sunset and saw hippos and crocodiles (the bigger boat was booked up, this smaller boat with 10 passengers or so was actually much better, we could get much closer to the shore and the guide was really good) and took a helicopter ride over the falls which was alot of fun.
All the connections and flights worked out well, thanks for all your planning!! Attached, I hope, are some pictures of the elephant in front of the lodge the day we arrived and some warthogs in the back of the lodge the next day! We all really enjoyed our time in your beautiful country and hope we get the chance to come back.
Pat”
