Lions, when existing in protected wild areas, do incredibly well as a species. It must be because of their strong social structures, because from this sequence of images, it certainly is not because of their hunting prowess!
This incredible sighting took place at Rippon’s Safari Lodge, which shares traverse with Shamwari Private Game Reserve, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
In my opinion, the male lion looks quite young, and looks to have made the crucial error. It almost looks like he is closing his eyes as he goes in for the tackle! And then, quite comically, is left at the back while the females try to rectify his abysmal effort!
This was reported in the media from Rippon’s Safari Lodge and attributed variously to Miller&Maclean/Rippon’s Safari Lodge and Jozef Dzwonnik/Noble/Draper.
