The Selinda Spillway head waters have joined – by Brett Thomson

The head waters of the Selinda Spillway, in Botswana, have joined. The flood waters that flow into Botswana via the Okavango and Linyanti systems have resulted in the head waters joining up already!

This is very early as in 2009 this happened for the first time for 30 years in August. In 2010 it occurred in May, and last year in 2011 the waters joined in March. This year, they joined in mid-February! So at this rate it looks like the Selinda Spillway might be flowing year round?

The Selinda Concession is located north east of the Okavango Delta and is one of the last true, remote wilderness areas. It is easily accessible via Maun Airport and combines well with a visit to the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park. The most luxurious camp in the concession is Zarafa Camp, and another beautiful camp is Selinda Camp. For the more adventurous the Selinda Canoe Trail is a wonderful way to explore this vast and beautiful wildlife area.
