And the Oscar goes to… – by Brett Thomson

With “The Artist” winning The Best Picture at the 2012 Academy Awards, it got me thinking to what the best Wildlife Documentary is that I have ever seen? Admittedly I am a little biased towards anything involving lions, but for me, the wildlife documentary that has affected me the most was Eternal Enemies, by Derek and Beverly Joubert.

Filmed in the Savute area of Chobe National Park in Botswana, this film is the story of two of Africa’s most intense rivals – lion and hyena. Each night is a battlefield as these two apex predators battle each other to survive.

Dereck and Beverly Joubert have been in the unique position to film these interactions at night and so reveal the truth behind how lions and hyenas behave under the cover of darkness. It’s an incredible documentary and every wildlife lover should watch the intense feud between these eternal enemies.
